Denmark won the madison gold medal in track cycling at the Tokyo Games this Saturday, ahead of Great Britain and France, and with Spaniards Albert Torres and Sebastin Mora in sixth place.

Lasse Hansen and Michael Morkov added 43 points in the 20 sprints that allowed them to overtake Ethan Hayter and Matthew Walls, who accumulated 40 and took the silver by entering the finish line first, as they were tied with the French Benjamin Thomas and Donovan Grondin .

The Spaniards, world runners-up in 2018 and European champions in 2020, were fifth in the finish line, with 14 points, in the return of this event to the Olympic program after 13 years.

The Danes have been unbeaten since teaming up in international competition. In 2020 they were world champions and they made a double with the Olympic title in Tokyo. For Hansen it is his fifth Olympic medal.

None of the favorites managed to win a return despite several attempts by different teams. Spain, who added three sprints in the first half of the event (third, seventh and ninth for five points), tried to take the initiative in the second half in search of increasing their score and even achieving a return.

With no option to the latter because those who dominated did not allow it, their attack allowed them to go back to the Olympic diploma in the general classification by scoring in another three sprints.
