Sex and the City Reboot: There’s good (and bad) news

New developments for the reboot of “Sex and the City”

The rumor mill is running hot, the stars are posting mysterious pictures on Instagram, and news comes to light almost every day: “And Just Like That …”, the reboot of “Sex and the City”, is not expected to start shooting until the summer, but from the abundance of news one could guess otherwise. In the last week there have been two new developments that are likely to have a significant impact on the show.

First the good news: Chris Noth will return as Mr. Big. “I’m thrilled to be working with Chris again for ‘And Just Like That…’,” said producer Michael Patrick King, “how could we ever do a new chapter in the ‘Sex and the City’ story without Mr. Big?” The love story between Carrie and Mr. Big, to which fans of the series owe many anxious moments, is apparently not over yet.

What will Carrie Bradshaw’s famous wardrobe look like?

There is other news in the fashion department. Patricia Field, who was responsible for the cloakroom for Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, Samantha & Co., will not be part of “And Just Like That …”. The reason for this is, according to “WWD”, a scheduling overlap: Field is currently in Paris and is working on the second season of the Netflix series “Emily in Paris”.

Nevertheless, “SATC” fans do not have to be prepared for a stylistic U-turn. Field passed the producers on to the costume designer Molly Rogers, who will now be responsible for the costumes. She was part of the costume department of “Sex and the City” from the beginning and even won an Emmy for the best costumes in 2002 together with Field and four other designers. A whole culture sprang up around the outfits of the series: Dresses that Carrie wore were regularly blown off the rails, new trends emerged, and over twenty years after the first episode in 1998, entire Instagram accounts are still dedicated to the recognizable “SATC” -Style. How fashionable the reboot is will probably only become apparent during the shooting.

“And Just Like That …” will follow the protagonists of “SATC” as they master their turbulent life in their fifties. Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie Bradshaw), Cynthia Nixon (Miranda Hobbes) and Kristin Davis (Charlotte York) will all be there, only Kim Cattrall (and thus Samantha Jones) declined. Instead, with actor: Sara Ramíez (Che Diaz), the first non-binary character in the history of “SATC” is introduced. The ten-part series will be shown on the streaming service HBO Max.
